Writer: Brian K Vaughn
Artist: Cliff Chiang
Brian K Vaughn is one of my favorite comic writers! What I would not give to meet him:) I literally buy everything he writes. If you haven’t read any of his work, check out Saga, Y: The last Man, Ex-Machina etc
You can thank me later!
Lets talk Paper Girls… Wohoo!
While impatiently waiting for more installments of Saga to come out, I decided to check out another Brian K Vaughn book and this one spoke to me! I loved the cover, 80’s references and girly girls experience lol 🙂
Mystery collides with middle school suburban drama … Lets go back in time … 1988 to be exact. Four 12 year old newspaper delivery girls of varying dispositions uncover what could be the most important story of all time! Are you intrigued yet? Flying saucers, Pterodactyls in the skies, strange creatures and crazy technology…the whole 9 yards.
The plot was a little confusing at first but it did hook me and I wanted to understand what was up. This is not always the case with comics that start out a little on the confusing side. Good writing walks the line that does not spell everything out immediately but provides enough detail to keep you wanting more. And Brian K Vaughn, in my view, has mastered this 🙂
(There is particular funny bit where the girls find an iPod from the future and have no idea what it is)
The artwork is great. For those who grew up in the 80s, you will love how well Mr Chiang captures the era – the shoulder pads, hair styles and fashion. Shout out to Mr Chiang!
High Fives all around to seriously keeping me on my toes. I cant wait to read more!
